Biography |
||
My first Labrador was born in 1976. She gained her Obedience Champion title (including tracking) and worked at All Age level in Retrieving Trials. I later bought a show bitch puppy of mostly Sandylands bloodlines. For ten years my show, trialling and particularly breeding activities were limited by my job travelling around the country as an orchestral musician, however in 1987 I bought a boarding kennel and the dogs took over my life. The next fifteen years provided the steepest learning curve in my canine education; I was very fortunate to be able to regularly visit several highly respected UK Labrador kennels and gained so much from the generous advice and wisdom those breeders and my mentor here in Australia were willing to share. With the busy life involved in managing a kennel and pursuing other interests, I am not a regular dog show attendee, however I have had success in the specialty ring, having bred or owned five multi BISS Labradors. In recent years I have become more involved in the administrative side of dogs including sitting on the Committee of Management of Dogs Victoria; chairing the Dogs Victoria Canine Health Committee for fifteen years; being Vice Chair of the Australian National Kennel Council Canine Health Committee and President of the National Labrador Retriever Breed Council. For five years I was a Field Officer for Dogs Victoria. I am currently the facilitator for the Dogs Australia Canine Hip and Elbow Dysplasia Scheme (CHEDS) and the Dogs Australia Officially Registered Canine Health Information Database (ORCHID). My first judging appointment was at an Open Show in England in 1995. I have judged breed specialties in several states of Australia and twice in New Zealand and I regularly judge all Gundogs (Sporting Group) at Championship Show level. I had the honour of judging at the Mid-Jersey Labrador Retriever Club and I look forward to judging at the Labrador Owners Club and the Erie Shores Kennel Club in Canada and for the Northumberland and Durham Labrador Retriever Club Centenary Championship Show in the UK later this year. |
